Daniel C. Muller

1872 - 1952

Daniel C. Muller was one of many carvers in the golden age of the carousel. He started out as a carver under Gustav Dentzel, and did some freelance work for the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. Eventually, Muller and his brother Alfred broke away from Dentzel to form their own carousel carving company, D.C. Muller Brothers carousel manufacturing company. Although the company did not last long (only being open from 1903 to 1914) due to difficulty competing with the other, better established, companies, they still produced many beautiful carousels and figures. Daniel eventually returned to the Dentzel company, helping Gustav's son William produce a few more carousels before the Great Depression led to the closing of the Dentzel shop in 1928.

The Mexican Muller carousel featured on this page is believed to have been carved between 1905 and 1910, but it is impossible to be sure due to limited records and information. Either way, the carousel is over 110 years old!

About Me

Hi! I am a college student currently studying English. My hope is to become a screenwriter or author. When I'm not researching a 100+ year old carousel or working, I enjoy watching movies, reading, writing, and playing video games. I started this page after seeing the beautiful, unique figures of the "Mexican" Muller carousel and discovering, much to my dismay, that information on this carousel and the fate of its figures is scarce. My goal is to find as much as I can about this carousel and its life, and share what I learn with the world. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
